- I like having a deep, almost upright sound on my Hofner. No metallic clangy-ness.
- In general I prefer flatwounds, although I'm up for any winding if it still has that smooth tone to it
- Here's the tricky part: I still want the harmonics to be rich and clear. Generally, I've found that the harmonics only ring out on basses that are very "clangy" and strings that are good for funk - but I want to keep the deep, upright-ish tone of a flatwound

Also, a Hofner has a short-scale neck. If the strings aren't specifically short-scale I've found that the strings end up being too loose, adding more fret-noise and contributing to the metalic sound.

So to sum it up: a deep, upright-tone short-scale string with harmonics that ring out nice and clearly - preferably flatwounds. Any ideas?
