Bass Tuners

Have you ever been in this position? You set the tone of your guitar or bass to perfection. Your tuner says exactly the same tone harmonic box at the twelfth and FRET note at the twelfth, but some dishes continue to produce the notes are fake. Xylem previous article intonation and discussed ways to address them adequately for guitars and basses. This two-part article will address several problems of intonation and solutions. Once completed one of the parameters, you must re-tune his instrument. While reading, keep in mind that the tone perfectly for instruments each fret are very rare and should expect slight variations in pitch. However, you should be able to determine changes greater than about 6 cents sharp or flat dollar in most cases.

Bad Tuners, Low battery and Old Strings
When controlling the intonation of an instrument, be sure to use the tuner quality decent color with fresh batteries. The tone may appear simply because of a cheap tuner, or with good batteries available, producing inaccurate readings. Another cheap solution for potential bad intonation is a replacement string. As the guitar strings and age, becoming corrosion, development wells and shots, and the nuclei are spread more easily, everything that can affect intonation.
Relief surplus
Bug on a faulty tuner or strings of age, next check is the relief neck. If your instrument intonation is properly configured on the 12th fret, but it is still wrong in some other dishes (especially the half dishes), it is possible that much relief. Exemption requires excessive travel channels following contact with the dishes, making rope to stretch more and results in a press slightly spicy. To correct this problem, optimize the relief of his instrument (se Articles refer to stem xylem, parts one to three modalities procedures for optimization of relief).
Nuts Slots and Saddle
In a nut well done, the slots are angled toward the head and, consequently, the chain contacts the nut on a single point in the slot closest to the key (Figures 1 and 2). If the nut slots have more than one contact point or contact point is farther from the button, the intonation can be removed. If the nut slots are not cut off from his instrument this angle, and / or the highest point of these boxes are not appropriate in the face of the nut, touches of the nut may be necessary. You Need a set of measurement, the nut slot files that match your stringed instrument gauges to properly expose the slots (they can be purchased from luthier supply companies, trying to recover files that are about .003 "larger than chain measurement). File product away in small steps, ensuring that the tread depth of no more than ½ to ¾ the diameter of string. If the slots are too deep to allow the new format, you may need to install a new nut. Once the sides fingerboard slots are higher than the rest, has solved the problem. If you are not comfortable filing the nut you most, repair technicians and luthiers (including me) costs $ 20 - $ 50 for amendments of NUTS.
A similar procedure can be made for grooving presidents riding in some instruments. Additional precaution should be used when reporting these stool, as it can be as easy to replace, as the nut. Saddles which consist of a single party (like those found on most guitars noise) should not be represented this way. In addition, the chains should be buried in the saddle slot with a nail to ensure that the chains are in contact with the edge of the slot.
The second part of this article will discuss how to modify a nut that is too high for proper intonation and how simple and inexpensive to improve the intonation of an instrument with fixed seats or chairs mobile fit all the way back or forward. Thank you for reading, see you next month!
